The Leeds Fire Department was established in 1976 by the Town of Leeds
under the direction of Don Fawson, who then became the first Fire Chief for the Town of Leeds. With the support and hard work from the community,
a fire station was built near the current Leeds Town Hall.
The building is now used as the Leeds Police Department.
An old military truck was converted into a fire truck and served as the
first fire truck for the Town of Leeds.
Some time later, two used fire trucks were purchased from a facility in California and put into service.
A new fire station was built in 1998 and is located at 730 North Main Street and is featured on the website Home Page.
In 1999, the ownership of the fire department moved from the Town of Leeds to the newly-created Special Service District.
Also in 1999, the Leeds Fire Department received Utah State licensure to provide ambulance ground transport service at the Intermediate Level.
A new ambulance was purchased in 2000,
and a second pre-owned ambulance was purchased in 2004.
In 2003, two new fire trucks where purchased and remain in service today.
In 1993, the Utah State
Emergency Medical Technicians (EMT) was added to the force
and the Leeds area began the Emergency Medical Services (EMS) for first response services.
In 2005, a used brush truck was purchased from the Bureau of Land Management (BLM), repaired,
and put into service.
History of Leeds Area Fire Department
Today the Leeds Fire Department is providing Emergency Services for the Community
with 31 active volunteers and 1 full-time employed Fire Chief.
In 2007, a new brush truck chassis was purchased and the equipment from the existing brush truck was installed on the new chassis.
