Fire Chief’s Message, March 2009
We are approaching the summer months, and now is a great time to clean up the vegetation around your property. Protect your home by providing that critical defensible space. If you would like a free evaluation, please call me at 435-879-2881.
I have started working with our community leaders to complete our community's Emergency Plan. You will hear more about this as we move from the planning stage
and into the community exercise phase of the plan.
It is important that we put forth substantial effort in this Project, as there are numerous emergencies that can occur in our area. Hazardous Material Spills are always a risk, as Interstate 15 is a nationwide transportation route. Earthquakes and contagious disease are also at the top of the list here in southern Utah. Whatever the cause, emergencies affect us all and learning how to be prepared must be taken seriously. If you would like to be involved with emergency planning and/or exercise committees, please contact me.

Please remember we are always in need of volunteers for Fire-Fighting and Emergency Medical Services. Our department can only be as great as the people who support it.
Learn how you can help.
I look forward to a great year.

The Utah Highway Safety Office is asking for your help
to prevent aggressive and inattentive driving problems, which contribute to crashes.
If we can all make an extra effort to drive with care and courtesy,
the number of driver error and aggressive related crashes will be reduced.
The following are some tips for a more courteous and friendly driving experience:
- Maintain a safe distance from vehicle in front of you.
- Use your signal to turn, change lanes or merge.
- Make sure you can change lanes without cutting another driver off.
- If another driver wants to pass, let them.
- Respect pedestrians’ right of way.
- Adjust your attitude; let other drivers’ actions go.
- Avoid texting, cell phone use, shaving, putting on makeup, reading etc.
- Avoid using threatening or obscene hand gestures.
The Utah Highway Safety Office wishes you a happy and safe back-to-school season.
